Public Transport

The public transportations of Budapest are buses, trolley-buses, trams, underground (metro) and the local railway (HÉV). The transport is extensive and frequent.
The buses, trams and trolley buses go between the hours of 4.30 a.m and 11 p.m, On the weekend, transport runs from 5 a.m.
There are three metro lines that cross each other at Deák Square. They provide the fastest way of getting around the city. The trains go, depending on the time of the day, every 2-15 minutes, from 4.30 am to 11.30 p.m.
Outside of these hours, the city has an extensive night bus service.
The local railway (HÉV) runs to Ráckeve, Csepel Island, Szentendre, and Gödöllő.
A single ticket costs 320 HUF, and is valid on the buses, trolley-buses, underground, trams, and the HÉV (to the city boundary) . Tickets can be bought at a variety of places including metro stations, newspaper sellers and from ticket machines.
Daily tickets, a three day tourist ticket, and 10 and 20 piece ticket booklets also exist for those wishing to use the public transport regularly.
Tickets should be validated onboard buses, trolleys and trams and before getting on the metro. At the entrance to the metro and on buses, trolleys and trams, staff with distinguishing armbands may check if you have a validated ticket. You are liable to pay a fine if found without one.
